ABOUT US

Howdy y’all! Thank you for stopping by and checking out my website!

This is Katey Anderson owner of Kissing Kate’s BBQ and Barlow Breads. Now you may be asking yourself who is Kissing Kate Barlow and why does the name sound familiar? Kissing Kate was a featured character in the Disney movie Holes. I chose Kissing Kate Barlow because she reminds me a bit of myself (besides the murderer part). We both found ourselves in life situations outside of our control and are trying to make the best of it.

I am a native Oregonian and grew up on Sheridan. I left the area in my 20’s to pursue a career in the medical field. I moved back to Dallas with my husband in 2018 after my father passed away. My Dad was a deep rooted Texan from Galveston. My favorite memories with him were sitting around his Old Smokey grill learning about Texas barbecue. Since I had an abundance of time my hands I decided to learn how to smoke brisket. What started out as making meals for friends and family… quickly turned into the unexpected surprise of… Wait!! I have a love and talent for cooking I never knew about!?! How cool is that!?

Now here we are 3 years later and I have added many other dishes, sourdough bread, and craft cocktails to my list of new skills! Now as some of you might know sourdough becomes a bit of an obsession and takes a lot of time and dedication. For those of you that might not know… you end up spending so much time working with and learning about your starter it is basically becomes like family and most starters have names. I have two different starters that I use Wally and Barlow. Oddly enough my husband (who doesn’t work with the sourdough) named Barlow because it is a starter from 1847 on the Oregon Trail. He unknowingly linked my two passions perfectly with that one name in that moment! BBQ and bread.. Kissin Kate’s BBQ and Barlow Breads.

In 2021 I was unfortunately diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disease that they currently don’t have a cure for. Since the diagnosis I have been disabled and doing my best to learn how to live with my new life. I do have bad unpredictable flare ups that will leave me incapacitated.. but that also means there are good days too! I am normally a very active person and when feeling well I like to stay busy. I wanted to fill my time with friends, family, and on the good days fill the day with something that I enjoyed doing. That is where smoking meats and you fine folks come in!
